Fiji Day 15 – Cruise & Last Day

Fiji Day 15 – Cruise & Last Day

Bula! Today was the best day ever! We got up early and headed to Denarau to go on a day cruise! We boarded one boat and stopped at a couple of islands to drop other people off before heading to get on our cruise boat, the Sea Spray. We stopped at an island and jumped off the boat with snorkelling gear, ready for the coral reefs! It was one of the best things that I have ever experienced! I wish I had an underwater camera so I could have taken photos, because it was so gorgeous! We swam up onto the beach and sun baked for a while, before getting back onto the boat for lunch. It was one of the best meals I have had while being here in Fiji! There was fish, chicken, potato salad and fried rice… Times like this made me wish I had two stomachs! After lunch we headed to another island where we visited a village and watched yet another karva ceremony, before having a look around the markets, where I bought a cute turtle necklace! Not long after we got back on the boat and jump off the end a couple of times before going back to get on the boat to take us back to Port Denarau. At this time it was dusk so there was a gorgeous sunset to look at while we sat on the top of the three decker boat! After we got sick of being there, we went down to the bottom deck which is right at the front of the boat and we sung multiple different songs the rest of the ride back. Although it was hot and most of us got sunburnt, it was so much fun! It was such an awesome way to wrap up our Fiji trip, it’s going to be hard leaving tomorrow! This will be my last post on my trip in Fiji, so a huge thank you to everyone who has read my blogs!

Fiji Day 13 & 14

Fiji Day 13 & 14

This weekend has been pretty relaxed and easy going, so I decided to put both the days together! On Saturday, we decided to cook an “Aussie” meal for our host families in the village. We went into town to get our supplies and it was possibly the worst shopping experience ever! Way to many people with trollies in crammed isles is not fun. After we got back to the village, we went and watched a game of rugby. I thought it was going to be boring but I actually really enjoyed it! When we got back we cooked up our meal and had it outside under a huge tree. We made spaghetti bolognese, garlic bread and pizza. I think the Fijians liked it, I’m not sure! But they did eat it all! Not long after tea, I went to bed because I was pretty tired! On Sunday we had two church services. The first one was outdoors under a little shelter which was really cool. At one stage there were pigs running around outside, it was quite funny! Our team sung some songs and shared at the church service too. The next church service wasn’t until 5pm and it was in Latoka, which is a half an hour drive away! This service was more modernised and it was heaps of fun. Once again, our team shared and sung a couple of songs. On the way back we stopped to get McDonald’s which was great! When we got back it was fairly late so most of us went to bed! Pictured below is some of the kids in the village before the morning church service.

Fiji Day 11 & 12 – Painting Houses

Fiji Day 11 & 12 – Painting Houses

Fiji Day 11

Thursday is here! Today was our first full day in the new village and it was a heap of fun! We got up at 7 abs had some breakfast before we set to work painting the houses! Thankfully I got the job of painting all the window frames so it’s a pretty easy job! We did this until about lunch time because it was getting too hot to work. After lunch we went to the beach, and as nice as it was, there were heaps of stingers in the water so we didn’t spend long in there. After we dried off we got some ice cream then headed back to do more painting in the cool evening! After we finished the first coat we had some tea. To finish off the night we played rugby with the boys which wore us all out, so soon after we all went bed!

Fiji Day 12

I can’t believe it’s already Friday! Today was very similar to yesterday! We spent the first half of the day painting the houses again and we got pretty close to finishing them. We had a lunch break then we also had an Anzac Day service. After this we went into Nadi and we got henna tattoos! We then did a little bit of shopping, before going to Denarau and doing even more shopping! I managed to finish off all the shopping for my family and got some things for myself too. When we got back to the village we finished off painting the houses, which was earlier than we expected! It’s not quite the end of the night yet but I’ll end this here, I’ll probably just have a shower and go to bed anyway!

Fiji Day 10 – The Second Village

Fiji Day 10 – The Second Village

It’s Wednesday! Which is crazy, time has gone so fast! Today we got up early and after breakfast we left the village and went to Suva to go to the markets. I managed to barter with the shop owners and got some good bargains! After this we headed off on our 4 hour ride to the other side of the island, to Nadi. On the way we stopped at Sigatoka for lunch where I also did a bit more shopping! When we arrived to the village we were shown to our houses for the week and I was quite pleased to see a shower this time! We played a bit of rugby before going into town to get some more water, then we had tea and soon after we went to bed! 7 more sleeps to go!

Fiji Day 9

Fiji Day 9

Today (Tuesday) was our last day at the Naimalvu village! We spent most of the day at the Nakelo District School, working in the classrooms and doing inventory for the science stuff. They ended the school day with a farewell ceremony, where the classes presented items. They were very entertaining and their singing is incredible! After school a small group of us went into Suva to buy some supplies for the village and we also convinced our teacher to get us McDonald’s too! I’m missing Australian food way too much! When we got back we had our last tea with the village people, then we had a farewell ceremony which was also fantastic. It also rained for the first time today! When we got back to our place, our host mum Alena gave Zara and I a fan, it was so sweet! It was a great last day to finish off at this village, and tomorrow we are heading off to Nadi!

Fiji Day 8

Fiji Day 8

Today is Monday, which means we have been here for a week! Time has gone so quickly! Today we got invited to a wedding which was super exciting. We arrived there at 11, and in true Fiji time, the bride didn’t get there until 12! It was great to experience a different culture and the way that they do things. The wedding was quite similar to an Australian one, the only stand out different thing was what they wore. After having lunch, the group split up – some went back to the village we’re staying at and others went and visited other villages. I went with the group to the other villages and it was so much fun! We went to 5 in total. The last village we went to is known as the “party village” and it was deservedly so! When we got there they were playing music in the community hall and they got us to join in with some dancing which was awesome! They then performed a traditional warrior dance for us and this was really interesting, and loud! When we were done at the villages we went back and pretty well went to bed because we have an early start in the morning!

Fiji Day 6 & 7 – Easter Weekend

Fiji Day 6 & 7 – Easter Weekend

Fiji Day 6

It’s Saturday! Today we got to go and visit other villages in the district of Nakelo. This meant taking a walk around the village, then going to their community hall and having some food and talking with the people there. We visited four in total! Two of the villages also had a karva ceremony. We then got to go to the beach! This was one of the highlights of the trip so far. The whole beach was lined with Palm trees and the water was the perfect temperature. After the beach, we went back to the village we are staying and we had lots of fun painting the ladies and their girls’ nails. After this we headed off to bed!

Fiji Day 7

Today is Sunday, which means we’ve been here for a week! Time has gone super fast! After another delicious breakfast, we got into our team uniform and went to a church service! At the service our team sung a couple of songs and a few of us shared, including myself. After the service we had some lunch at the village and spent the rest of the afternoon there. I spent some time reading a book to get some rest and we also played some card games with the team which was really enjoyable. After tea, I got to ring my family which was lovely! It was nice to have a relaxing and easy day because the week ahead is going to be super busy!
