Postpartum Must Haves!

Postpartum Must Haves!

The first few weeks after giving birth were nothing short of a challenge, but like the birth itself, it was not as bad as I thought it would be! Don’t get me wrong, getting a baby earth side is no easy task, but it’s absolutely worth every second of it! I wanted to share with you the things I found helpful for both myself and Amelia after giving birth and navigating the first few weeks of motherhood, in the hopes that it helps you too. And just a warning, this may be a little TMI, but someone has to talk about it!

Things YOU will need after birth:

• Pads. This is kind of an obvious one. But I didn’t realise how many you would need! I bought two packets of maternity pads, one I packed in my hospital bag and one I left at home. I ended up going through two packets in hospital alone and have since spent a small fortune on them! Stock up while they’re on sale!

• Wipes, for yourself. I ended up carting the babies wipes to and from the bathroom every time I would go. It’s much nicer cleaning yourself with a wipe rather than some toilet paper while everything is still sensitive and tender down there.

• Ural sachets. These were a life saver. And no one had told me I’d need them! It wasn’t until I had given birth and was heading back around to my room when my midwife gave me a few and told me to drink them over the next 24 hours. I didn’t notice that they were doing anything until I’d gotten home. I went to the toilet to do my business without a second thought and oh my goodness, the burning was intense! You can bet the next thing I did was go and buy some more Ural! Tastes awful but works wonders!

• Breast pads. Another obvious one! But they’ll be your best friend, especially when your milk first comes in. I’ve tried the “New Beginnings” ones and the “Tommee Tippee” ones; the New Beginnings brand are much comfier. Oh, and hot showers, they’ll be your best friend too to relieve those hard and engorged boobies!

• Panadol and Nurofen. Remember to have some ready for when you get back home! I forgot to restock the medicine box which meant that the first night at home was a long and painful one!

• A large bottle of water, snacks and frozen meals. Every breastfeeding mama’s must haves! Breast feeding makes you super thirsty, super hungry and super tired. So having a large bottle of water (I love my Lorna Jane bottle) and some snacks close by at all times makes feeding times a little easier. Also having some precooked meals in the freezer was a massive help. The last thing you’re going to want to do it cook a meal at the end of the day. We asked a few of our relatives instead of buying a gift to cook us a meal! It’s a sad time when they run out though.

I’m sure there are many more things you’ll need for yourself but these are the main things that helped me. Remember to take some time to look after yourself, it’s amazing how good a shower and fresh pair of pyjamas will make you feel or when you’re feeling up to it, get out in the fresh air for a walk!

Things the BABY will need after birth:

• Terry Towelling Nappies. Now I haven’t actually tried using these as a nappy – but, they are the best thing to have beside you while feeding. Or at anytime really! Perfect for cleaning up spews, leaking boobs and another other baby bodily fluids. I have one in every room of the house!

• Love To Dream Swaddles. I used these swaddles from the second night Amelia was born and I’ve found them to be great! So much easier to zip and unzip rather than using a swaddle to wrap your baby!

• Copper Pearl Swaddle Blanket. When I choose to wrap Amelia instead of using the LTD swaddle, the copper pearl ones are amazing! They are super stretchy and a good size too. You can get a nice tight wrap to stop your baby from wriggling out of it. Plus they have the cutest patterns and matching beanies.

• Ribbed Bodysuits. I got two of these from Cotton On and I so wish they still sold them! They are so thick and warm. I have found them much nicer than the standard cotton ones. Fingers crossed they bring them back!

• Dummies. Lots of them. I’ve been very lucky that Amelia has taken a dummy, but it was the fourth style I tried before she happily sucked away! And once I did find a style she liked (Avent Ultra Soft Soother) I bought 8 of them! Probably a bit over the top.

• White Noise Machine. This has been a great help with sleep time and getting Amelia to self settle. I purchased mine from Baby Bunting for around thirty dollars!

• The “Becoming Babywise” Book. I roughly followed the advice suggested in this book and Amelia slept through the night for the first time at 5 weeks. She’s nearly 8 weeks as I’m writing this and she’s sleeping through every night now. Enough said I think!

Once again, there are many more things a newborn needs but these are just some of the things that have helped make things a little easier for me. If you’re in the first few days or weeks with a newborn and you’re feeling like you have no idea what you’re doing and you’ve got a million questions in your head, don’t worry. We’ve all been there. It doesn’t take long before you become more confident and you forget what life was like before you had a baby. The first few weeks are full of ups & downs – remember to take it easy and be kind to yourself! If you’re a new mama like myself, I hope this has been helpful to you!

MAC All About Plum Look In A Box

MAC All About Plum Look In A Box

Long time, no post! The past month and a half has been crazy busy, so my blog has unfortunately taken a seat in the back. But not to worry because I have plenty of new posts ready!

About a month ago I was on the MAC website and came across the new “Look In A Box” range, and instantly fell in love… And bought one. I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to use it yet, but so far I am loving the things I have tried. The one I got is called “All About Plum” – It was an easy decision because all the rest were sold out! It comes with two blushes, six eye shadows, two lipsticks, and a double ended brush. It also wasn’t too pricey: only $115! Now onto the photos…

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Review

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Review

IMG_0580

At the end of my Fiji trip, we were in the airport to go home and I had a small amount of money left to spend. Without thinking I walked straight to the makeup counters! After hearing all the hype about these, I thought I’d try them out. The moment I swatched them onto the back of my hand, I was impressed. They are really pigmented and rich, with a “balm” like texture, just as the name suggest. There is also a large colour range to choose from, so it made it hard to narrow down! I only have three currently, but I am keen to try some more colours. The staying power is also considerably good. I put some on before going out for a meal and towards the end it had barely moved. I also find that the crayon-like shape makes it much easier to apply and get a nice, defined lip line. If you’ve heard all the great reviews, but still aren’t convinced, check them out for yourself and I promise you won’t be disappointed! Please comment below if you have any other great colours that I might be interested in trying!

MAC Haul & Review

MAC Haul & Review

Image

I’m am super excited about this post! I have been meaning to do it since I got home from Fiji and I’ve finally gotten around to doing it! So when we walked into the international airport I wasn’t expecting too many shops or anything… But as soon as we got through the door I saw the MAC counter, and oh my, I was excited! I was planning to buy some ugg boots but that certainly did not happen! The first time I went to the counter I bought three products, but after tea we still had some time left… So I went back and bought some more! Let’s not actually talk about how much this would have cost though… All in all I was super excited because it was the first time I had brought MAC products. The closest place to buy it is five hours away from where I live! So this post will be a review / haul on all the stuff that I bought. Let’s get on with it! Enjoy…

Studio Fix 2

The first thing I bought, and actually needed, was the Studio Fix pressed powder in NW20, and I literally have no words for this stuff. It is flipping incredible! It is by far the best powder I have ever purchased. It covers so well even without a foundation underneath which is perfect for school mornings when I’m in a rush. And it stays on all day! It is just the perfect consistency and colour for my skin and I will definitely be buying again when it runs out! I highly recommend this!

Image

So the next thing I picked up was this Mineralize Blush in the colour Azalea in the Afternoon, and it is to-die-for! I actually spent ages looking for a blush colour and this one wasn’t actually on display; the lady working at the counter got it out to show me and I am so glad that she did! It is just a gorgeous pinky rose colour with a hint of gold, and it looks quite subtle on the skin, which is exactly what I wanted. I did think it would be slightly darker, but now I am glad that it isn’t, because I do have a natural blush. I am so happy with this product and would also recommend it, but if you’re going to buy it, be quick because it is limited edition!

Image

The next product is the Matte Eye Shadow in the colour Charcoal Brown. So far I have only used this to fill in my brows and I really like it. It stays on all day, doesn’t smudge and is the perfect colour for my brows! I like to apply it with an angle brush to get a good shape too. If you’re looking for a good shadow to fill in your brows, this is a great choice! I didn’t really see the point in buying one of the brow trios that other brands make because I knew I’d only use one colour, so this is perfect!

Image

The next product I’m not really sure why I bought… There is just something about hot pink lip stick that draws me in! Looking back on it, I wish I had of got a nude pink colour, but none-the-less I still really love this colour. It is the Cremesheen Lipstick in the colour Lickable by the way! I haven’t had a chance to wear this all day yet, but when I did put it on, the consistency and pigment was so amazing, so I am very keen to try this out!

Image

The last thing I bought was the Cremesheen Glass Lip Gloss in the colour Pagoda and it is so gorgeous! I have worn it to school everyday since I bought it! It is quite a sticky lipstick which is a little annoying but I love the colour, which is why I have been wearing it so often still. I also have a lipstick in a similar colour so I will try it over top of that sometime soon. I’m not sure if I would buy this exact product again, I would have to try some other glosses to see if I find anything better!

Image

Above are some swatches of the blush, lip gloss and lipstick in that order.

Image

This last thing isn’t MAC and I didn’t buy it while I was away, but I wanted to share it anyway! I bought this ‘purse’ from Forever New a couple of days after I got back with no idea what I was going to use it for but I decided that it was the perfect thing to put my make-up touch ups in to fix my makeup after school and before work. The outside feels like leather and I absolutely love the floral print on it. The inside is silky and also has a small pocket. It is the perfect size and doesn’t take up too much room in my school bag or hand bag, plus it was only $15, which I thought was cheap for Forever New! Definitely buy this if you’re looking for a new compact make-up bag.

Small Priceline Visit – New Makeup

Small Priceline Visit – New Makeup

A couple of weeks ago I went to Priceline with the intention of just buying a new foundation, but because the Rimmel counter had 3 for 2, I just had to buy two lipsticks as well! I would have bought a lot more, but I’m saving my money for Fiji!

Image

The foundation I bought was the Rimmel Match Perfection in Light Porcelain, after seeing Tanya Burr give it a great review. It goes on so easily and smooth, and it gives fantastic coverage. It’s also the perfect match for my skin, so blending isn’t a problem. Then sticking to beauty guru recommendations, I bought the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107, after seeing it on the gorgeous Zoella. I also bought the same lipstick in 103, which is a more neautral pink colour. They are both super pigmented and long-lasting, which is a must when it comes to lipsticks! Below is a swatch of both of them. I’d definitely recommend both these products!

February Beauty Favourites

February Beauty Favourites

So this is my second blog post! And my first beauty post! Every month I will try do a review on my favourite beauty products. Also expect some outfit ideas, bargain finds, make-up tutorials & DIY projects, plus some general life stuff! Comment if you have any other suggestions of what I could do!

Foundation Final Edit

Starting with foundation, I have been using two different ones, although I do seem to use the Rimmel Wake Me Up more often than I do the Maybelline Fit Me. They both provide fantastic coverage for the whole day and are easy to apply. I found that I prefer applying them with a circular sponge rather than a brush. As far as blending goes, I find that the Rimmel Wake Me Up just seems to do it better for me, however it is a thicker consistency. Another plus is that it comes in a pump bottle whereas the Maybelline Fit Me doesn’t – I have to poor it onto my hand and sometimes I get too much, which just wastes it! If I had to choose between the two I would definitely get the Rimmel Wake Me Up.

IMG_9276

When it comes to powder & bronzer, I always take them everywhere with me! They are perfect to touch up after school, before I go out or after I have finished playing sport. Plus they’re the only things I apply to my face when I can’t be bothered doing anything else. These past few months I have been using the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder and the Rimmel Natural Bronzer, which is also waterproof! These too products stay on all day, even if I don’t use a primer! I would definitely recommend these, and they are even an affordable price!

Baby Lips Final Edit

These are my summer must haves – Maybelline Baby Lips! I don’t think I have ever used a better lip moisturiser than these! I probably re-apply it up to five times a day! They come in tons of different colours and flavours and they leave your lips feeling super smooth! I apply these before I put on my make-up, again afterwards and before I go to bed and if not during the day. I also apply this before I put on lipstick, which helps to prevent your lips looking cracked! Definitely go and buy a stick, you’ll be addicted!

IMG_9288

Another lip product I have been using is the TBN Colour Lipstick, not because I’m a huge fan of them but because they’re as cheap as chips! Only $2.50! I would have gone and bought the same colours in a lipstick that was better quality but I don’t lipstick very often so I didn’t think it was worth it. They are great for about the first hour of wear, but after that they don’t last very long, especially when you are eating or drinking! The last time I wore it was for four hours and I had to re-apply it at least twice which was a pain! But still, they are cheap and a great way to see if you like the colour before you go and buy something more expensive. Pictured from left to right is ‘Mwah!’, ‘Kiss Me Under the Mistletoe’, ‘Affairs of the Lips’ & ‘I Don’t Kiss and Tell’.

IMG_9280

I have two favourite mascaras – Maybelline One by One Volume Express which I have actually loved and repurchased for a year now and Rimmel The Max Volume Lash which I bought this summer simply because it was waterproof. The Maybelline one has a rubber brush, which I love! I hate using any other brush on my eyelashes now! Which is why I don’t like applying the Rimmel one, but I just use it before I go swimming or when I’m playing sports. It also gives just as much volume and coverage as the Maybelline one but I just prefer the other brush! I know I would probably like other mascaras too, but it’s just one of those things I don’t like to change because I’m so particular about my eye make-up. The Rimmel one is the first waterproof one I’ve ever bought so I do like it but maybe there’s a better one you guys use? Comment below if you have a favourite one!

IMG_9297

The skin care products I have been using lately are from Garnier, and I love them! I use the Daily Deep Clean Foaming Gel daily in the shower and it really controls my oily skin and leaves it feeling fresh and clean. However, I wouldn’t recommended this to people who have sensitive skin – it does make my skin sting on some occasions. I have also been the Pure Active 3 in 1 as a face mask, 3-4 times a week and it’s fantastic! It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and refreshed, especially after a week where I’ve worn heavy make-up often. These products get a huge thumbs up!

IMG_9304

So if you have naturally blonde hair like me, you will probably own a purple shampoo & conditioner; this is the best one I have used by far! It is the Edward Beale Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner and my hair has never been and looked healthier! My hair feels so smooth and silky after every use and I only have to wash my hair every three days! Plus they come in pretty bottles… 10/10!

Toni Guy Hair Products Final Edit

Lastly, I bought these Toni & Guy products after I got about 1.5 inches cut off my hair (which I regret) … And I think they’re great! The first one is the Classic Spray Gel, which I put in my hair when it’s wet, then I scrunch it. It just gives my hair a nice wave, but not too messy. The second one is the Casual Sea Salt Spray, which I put in dry hair to give it some texture before putting it up. Two great products to your hair collection!
